David, I work at a K-8 school and we’re moving from Office2004 to 2011. Any pointers on how to set things up properly so messages appear in the SENT folder? I’ve just moved the first two users at my school to Office11 (imap) and alas, the sent folder is completely empty. I can mess with the filters a bit and see the sent items appear but they are gone if I click off of the sent box and then return back to it. I can also go to: Outlook, preferences, accounts, advanced, folders, sent, store sent messages in this folder, chooseThen choose your sent folder for the account. However, this only seems to work from the time I make the change onwardand then the sent item appears as unread. Perhaps if this is changed at the time the account is imported it will save all sent items there.
So, after reading some of your work I’ve decided that you’re the guy smart enough to save me this time. ? I know this isn’t quite the specific thread or forum for this but I thought I’d throw it out there.

Almost all of my Test-Users are complaining about the color-scheme/theme, and mostly about the fact that folders in Outlook no longer gets BOLD when having unread items. We miss this sorely. Yes - the folders show the number of unread items, but this number has a rather weak color, and can get overlooked easily, especially with the DarkGrey-theme. My Goolge-fu tells me that the UI design is similar if not identical with Outlook 2013. So no amount of grumblings and/or Support tickets from angry Users/Admins has had any effect the past years.
Also - there is no fix. I wish we could get folder bolding back, or at least some themes with better contrast, or the option to change the font/color of the numeral showing the number of unread items. (And do away with the unnecessary wide line-space between folders too) Do any of you feel the same way, or am I just getting old and grumpy.;) Cheers to all, UlleTheBulle UlleTheBulle. Hi, What's your display for unread messages in Outlook? Compared with Outlook 2010, the Unread message display is more clear in Outlook 2016.
For your reference: If you want to change the Unread messages view font in Outlook 2016, we can do the following: 1. On the View tab, in the Current View group, click View Settings. Click Conditional Formatting., select 'Unread messages', Click Font. Change the Font style ( Bold), Color and Size as you needed. Hi Winnie, You misunderstand me - it's not the ITEMS in a Folder, but the FOLDER itself, I want to show a bold: When you have selected a folder (Outlook 2016), it turns bold - regardless of having any unread Items. I miss that the folder stays bold as long as there are unread items inside. Yes, I know there's a number next to the folder, showing the number of unread items inside, but that is not enough I think. And with the DarkGrey look of Outlook, it's even harder to see if a folder contains unread items.
Hi, Sorry for my misunderstanding. Bold the Outlook folders that have unread message is not available in Outlook 2016 currently. There is no settings in Outlook to do the changes for it. The Outlook folder only be bold when you click on it. I am not sure if this feature would be added back in Outlook. If you have feedback for TechNet Support, contact. Really, you strive to capture users' ideas? Which users told you they didn't want to see folders containing unread email in bold? Hi, I've changed from Outlook 2007 to 2016 and I share the exact same opinion.
I do miss the bold folders with unread mails, I do not like the unreasonable large line space among the folders. I think, the font size and color should be adjustable, costumizable for an easier overview. If there's any update or solution for this, please let me know. Regards, Richard I agree, but Microsoft stopped listening a long, long time ago. I doubt these changes were made with much user consultation, otherwise they would have been optional.
This is a trend going back quite a while: first Microsoft made annoying changes, but gave you the option to undo them or hide them. But over recent years they've stopped making the changes optional. I know this is a long time since the original quote, however I have just recently purchased Office 2016 for my desktop machine and I have spent several hours trying to be able to view emails in a logical / quick & easy way.
I firstly had to deal with additional subfolders being created in my IMAP mailbox. Then had to disable 'Outlook Today' for my first email account. Then I noticed the lack of bold folders which I could not believe has been removed. I previously had Outlook 2007 and it worked well and made practical sense. I have several email accounts so the wide line-spacing also referred above with multiple sub folders means I can't see them all on one screen if expanded with all their individual IMAP folders. But if i condense them, I can't see which ones have new emails!! I had to set up Search folders for 'Unread Mail' for each of my accounts and save them in favourites just so I could see all my unread mail in one location - and I have to make sure I look for the numbers instead of bold folders - this is ridiculous.
If this was changed just to be consistent with tablets etc. Then this is just stupid.wasn't this at least partly why Windows 8 was such a disaster??? I don't know who would have thought the setup for Outlook 2016 view is an effective way to navigate emails. If I hadn't paid for this garbage, I would not be using it now.
Guess it's a case of 'caveat emptor'. I may go back to Outlook 2007 anyway. This is awful! I've had Office 2013 for only 24 hours and I HATE that the bolded folder names when there are unread messages is gone! My whole productivity is predicated on me catching when projects/tasks still need attention and I catch that by having unread items in the folder so the folder name is bolded. AND I can't change the font or size of the unread items count either to make it stand out more. I was so hoping when I stumbled upon this post that I would find the Holy Grail of a fix!
Microsoft this is SOOOO not good. One year later, I just got O365 at the office and feel your pain Ulle.
No changes by Microsoft. I noticed the extra space between rows on Day 1 (not to mention the headache the new theme was giving me).
It took till day 2 to realize I was missing out on unread emails, and that some messages were still stuck in my Outbox. Pity Microsoft ignores user feedback. Honestly, how difficult would it have been for MS to leave the flag that bolds the folder name when it contains unread emails? Not old and grumpy yet, but Microsoft seems to be doing their part to contribute to that!! Chiming in with everyone else. Not having Bold folders is a disaster for productivity. I've got about 100 county employees screaming about this, because we use shared mailboxes to process service requests and the bold color is an important visual cue to users that there is an unread message in the box that requires an timely response. It's far more visible than the tiny little 1 at the end.
I could see making this an option that could be turned off, but why the hell would they remove it entirely? I agree also. Not just bold folder names in the Folder Pane are missing - there is no customization of the folder pane whatsoever in Outlook 2016. Microsoft is too big for it's own britches. Has been for awhile.
I have a subscription to Office 365 Family plan but will not renew next time it comes up. I can't even use Microsoft OneDrive because it wouldn't work for several users on several different computers. Combine that with privacy issues - and I no longer have any interest. Just the fact that trying to figure out where to get support is a nightmare in itself should be our first clue. After this subscription, I will not renew.
